We are so excited to announce that all season long, we will be producing virtual sessions designed to engage young musical theatre performers and enthusiasts alike. Whether diving into the making of an award winning show, learning choreography from some of the hottest musicals right now or connecting with professional performers, there is so much to learn at every session!

The sessions continue to be FREE and are open to anyone aged 11-21 plus Mainstage Alumni.

Our 2020-2021 Virtual Sunday Sessions are provided with the generous support of the Peter Mansbridge and Cynthia Dale Foundation.

Sunday January 31st at 2:00pm.

Over the course of the 90 minutes workshop, Juno-Award nominated singer-songwriter Peter Katz will give students a glimpse into the songwriting process. He will teach them first the fundamentals of song components (verse, chorus, bridge) using popular songs that they’ll recognize, and then they'll discuss choices that can be made in the creation process that affect the impact of the song on the listener (tempo, major/minor chords, dynamics). Once these basic concepts are in place, Peter and the group will then take that newfound knowledge and apply it to creating the beginnings of a song together. Students will be able to see that the creation process is fun, free-flowing, and contains infinite possibilities. Concepts like similes/metaphors will also be discussed to add greater depth to the lyrics.

This FREE workshop is open to everyone aged 11-21 plus alumni. No previous songwriting experience necessary! REGISTER NOW.
For more than a decade, JUNO & Canadian Screen Award-nominated singer-songwriter Peter Katz has toured extensively, selling out premiere venues worldwide. CBC Radio host Tom Power calls Peter's music "astonishing" and "one of the most heartfelt, beautiful and vulnerable records of the year."

With over 5 million career streams, his latest singles have garnered more than half a million alone in the lead up to the official release of his new album ‘City Of Our Lives’ (released November 25, 2020), and his videos are exceeding 18 million views on YouTube.

Peter’s music has been featured on several TV shows and movies like Lethal Weapon, Reign, Sign Sealed and Delivered, Felicity, For Your Consideration, Hello Goodbye, Alias, Heartland and more, as well as on CBC Television’s 2016 Rio Olympics / Paralympics coverage. He has shared the stage and studio with Academy Award Winner Glen Hansard and legendary Band organist Garth Hudson.
