SUNDAY MAY 31st | 2:00PM ENSEMBLE, SWINGS, UNDERSTUDIES, OH MY! Tune in on may 31st at 2:00pm, for our next FREE virtual panel! This time our panellists will be discussing their experiences working in the ensemble, as understudies, and as swings with well-known Canadian theatre companies. Michele, Gray and Tyler won't only be discussing what it takes to be versatile performers but will each share how these under-appreciated but absolutely crucial roles in the cast have shaped their careers.
MICHELE SHUSTER: Originally from Winnipeg Manitoba, Michele splits her time between performing on stage and choreographing/ directing musicals. Past production credits include Newsies (Director-Choreographer/ Mainstage), The Music Man, Sweet Charity, Anything Goes (Choreographer/ Mainstage), Back In 59 (Associate Choreographer/ 1000 Islands Playhouse), The Little Mermaid (Choreographer/ St. Lawrence College), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Director/ The LOT), Little Shop of Horrors, Junie B Jones, Anything Goes, Avenue Q, Fancy Nancy, Spamalot, Rent, and The Sound of Music (Choreographer/ The LOT), Marvelous Wonderettes (Director/ Stephenville Theatre Festival), Urinetown, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Blue Champagne, and Tales of Ti-Jean (Choreographer/ Stephenville Theatre Festival). As a performer Michele has been on stage in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Niagara, Halifax, and Newfoundland.
GRAY MONCZKA is a Toronto-based performing artist who has worked for theatre companies across North America, including Mirvish Productions (Matilda the Musical), The Charlottetown Festival (Anne of Green Gables--The Musical, Kronborg--The Hamlet Rock Musical, Mamma Mia!), Ross Petty Productions (Lil' Red Robin Hood),Drayton Entertainment (Holiday Inn, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, The Little Mermaid), The Grand Theatre (Mamma Mia!), and the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (There's No Business Like Irving Berlin, A Rhapsody in Gershwin). One of Gray's favourite professional experiences to date has been work-shopping the off-Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along withRoundabout Theatre Company/Fiasco Theater in New York City.
TYLER PEARSE got his start in theatre at age nine starring in the title role of ‘Oliver!’ at the Stratford Festival. He continued to work professionally until he attended Etobicoke School of the Arts and Sheridan College. Since graduation Tyler has worked across Canada in productions like ‘Mamma Mia’ (Globe Theatre), ‘Jukebox Hero’ (Ed Mirvish Theatre), ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ (Drayton Entertainment) and most recently, understudying the lead role in Ross Petty’s Pantomime at the Wintergarden Theatre. He’s looking forward to talking about what he’s learned over the past couple years in the industry.
