Mainstage Theatre Company is excited to announce we will be producing the award-winning satirical comedy musical URINETOWN this Spring!
As we continue to stay home and stay safe, we will begin rehearsing virtually. Our artistic team has planned rehearsals that will be engaging, exciting and will challenge cast members to continually grow as performers. Once permitted, we will safely jump back into in-person rehearsals, following the strictest procedures and guidelines set out by Toronto Health and Health Ontario. Here are our Covid Rehearsal Procedures.
We are committed to staging a production that will capture our hard work on film and it will be streamed publicly for all to enjoy! In these unprecedented times for the arts, we will be using all of our resources and the talents of a fantastic professional team to ensure a truly special theatre experience for all participants!
Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical can be, URINETOWN catapults musical comedy into contemporary times with its outrageous perspective and wickedly modern wit. Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, URINETOWN provides a fresh perspective on one of our greatest art forms.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. Citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. A hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.
For the safety of our team and prospective cast members, we will be holding all of our auditions virtually. We are accepting video audition submissions up to Sunday February 21st at 8:00pm. And we're holding live callback auditions with the team over Zoom on Friday February 26th between 5:00-9:00pm. Once you've registered for an audition, further steps and specific requirements for the video audition will be emailed to you!
Our goal is to make auditioning for Urinetown simple. We understand that some performers may not have experience preparing and submitting audition videos. Please contact uswith any questions!
Mainstage Theatre Company is committed to creating programming that is inclusive. We are actively seeking audition submissions from young people of all backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities within this selection process.
We are committed to offering accessible musical theatre training to all young actors. Thanks to the Aubrey & Marla Dan Foundation, we are able to offer many full and partial bursaries to participate in Urinetown. Find out more about eligibility.
We strive to make applying to a bursary clear and simple so that anyone has the opportunity to participate in our shows. Please contact us with any questions or to request an application.
*All applications and awarded bursaries are kept confidential.
