A Note from Mainstage Theatre Company's Board of Directors
September 29, 2020
We are all trying to negotiate the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and the unprecedented implications on our communities. Our approach has been to continue to engage with youth, but in different, and of course, responsible ways.
We announced back in March that we were delaying the production of The Music Man, which was in rehearsals, until the Fall.
Fall is now here, and with the pandemic restrictions we are still not able to stage a live theatrical production at this point in time. Rather than delay The Music Man once again, we have come up with an interesting evolution of the live musical theatre experience for the cast, who continue to rehearse diligently. Working with a digital partner, we are going to stage the production as a filmed digital experience. The cast will get new skills in performing for a visual medium and will still benefit from the mentoring of the professional artistic team, who continue to work with them. We were inspired by Hamilton on Disney Plus and we hope to be able to create a different, but special learning experience for all involved. There will be more details on this to come. We are very excited about this project. Of course, we continue to adhere to strict health and safety protocols. You can get more details on how we are protecting our community, here.
We are also thrilled to announce today that with the support of a presenting sponsor, The Peter Mansbridge and Cynthia Dale Foundation, we will be bringing back our virtual Sunday masterclass sessions which will launch on October 25th. We have seen great interest in these sessions and with this generous gift we will be able to continue these sessions and continue to offer them to youth free-of-charge. We are extremely grateful for this support.
Mainstage is still, however, facing significant financial pressures due to the impacts of Covid-19. If you are a supporter of Mainstage please know that we are counting on your continued support of our programs. If you are currently not a supporter please consider investing in the Mainstage mission. Our goal remains to engage youth (11-21) in creativity and community and unlock their artistic potential in a positive, inclusive environment. It has never been more important than now.
Thank you for helping us invest in kids.
Please stay positive and healthy.
