We are thrilled to be coming to you with great news full stop - the announcement of our 2021-2022 season. We will be producing, live and in-person, two well-loved contemporary musical comedies along with some of our favourite Mainstage events. With the levels of vaccines, the year ahead looks brighter and we are optimistic about committing to a full-season of what we do best: quality youth theatre. This Fall, we showcase an unlikely hero with our production of the recent Broadway hit, Nickelodeon’s The SpongeBob Musical. Based on the beloved animated series, this musical features original songs from Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s and David Bowie. It has a strong, important message about how optimism really can save the world. This energetic musical is filled with a number of great characters, incredible design and memorable production numbers. For our Spring production, we are staging Legally Blonde, the iconic musical based on the popular film of the same name. This fabulously fun award-winning musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. It is action-packed - exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances. Forgive the pun, but this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal! We are also bringing back some of our most popular events including the long-awaited return of the 24HR Musical Project, where a group of unsuspecting performers are asked to rehearse and perform a mystery musical in just 24 hours. As witnessed in rehearsals for our current production of Urinetown, we are ready to safely welcome cast members to in-person rehearsals and we are hopeful that live audiences will be invited back into our theatres for these productions. Everyone’s safety remains a company priority while we continue to face the effects of Covid-19 and we are confident that our team has the skills to navigate shifting protocols and any restrictions that might emerge during our programming. I am also announcing today the return of our Dream Big Gala, a fundraising cabaret event featuring professional musical theatre performers sharing a stage with our young company members. All proceeds go directly into Mainstage’s programming for youth and needless to say, this is an incredibly important event for us this year. We count on your support. We are also pleased to announce that based on your positive feedback, we will be continuing the popular masterclass Sunday Sessions as a hybrid virtual and in-person combination this season. We will feature some special guest artists from the Canadian musical theatre scene and from Broadway. These sessions represent a great opportunity to learn from incredible talents. Can you tell that we are excited about the year ahead. We hope you are too and that we will see you at upcoming auditions, in the audiences for our productions, or supporting us during one of our other events. Raise the curtain on a new season!!!
