Over the last months, we have worked hard to offer engagement and routine to the young theatre community by connecting via virtual rehearsals, movie nights and with our highly successful new venture – the Virtual Sunday Sessions. Thank you to all who’ve made this a success!
Though we remain committed to providing virtual training until it is deemed safe to re-open any of our in-person programming, we are now excited to share with you our plans for the future and announce our 2020-2021 season!
We bring you a season that has promise of unique storytelling experiences and the big production value Mainstage is known for but still offers familiarity to our community. Regardless the landscape of theatre in the next year, we look forward to seeing you all again – and growing as theatre creators.
We remain here for you.
Alain Richer Artistic Director, Mainstage Theatre Company
Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN Postponed from our 2019-2020 season, Mainstage remains committed to bringing to life this tale of fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. We believe this nostalgic story about community and acceptance remains an important one to tell in these times.
Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST We couldn't be more excited about heading into our 25th full-scale production than with this timeless musical. Delving into the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress, Mainstage is ready to celebrate the power of musical storytelling in a grand way.
24HR MUSICAL PROJECT Now a staple of Mainstage's programming, the 24HR Musical Project continually challenges us to create musical theatre with the privilege of time and resources stripped away. We are asked to work collectively and rediscover the roots of effective storytelling. Always a great exercise in creation, the 24HR Musical Project is a perfect way for young performers to keep honing their skills.
DREAM BIG CABARET FUNDRAISER After the success of our first Dream Big Cabaret, we are excited to bring forward another evening of first-rate musical theatre performances led by professional actors mixed in with familiar Mainstage faces. With the hopes of Dream Big becoming a recurring event, all funds raised will be put back into developing professional and accessible programming for young performers.
